Tanya Hutter (Image from Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin)
Tanya Hutter is an Associate Professor in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin and Chair of the Sensors Research Interest Group (RIG). RIG is a multidisciplinary group of researchers with interests in sensor materials, methods, devices, and sensor applications in various fields/industries. Thus far Dr. Hutter has published 25 peer-reviewed papers and is listed as an inventor on 4 patents.
Currently, Dr. Hutter is the Director of the Hutter Research Group. A recent milestone of the Hutter Research Group is their NIH National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) funded work. In August 2022, they received a two-year R21 grant from NIH for the development of a novel optical probe for continuous real-time in vivo study of brain alcohol. The project was a collaboration with Prof. Rueben Gonzales from the College of Pharmacy at UT Austin and was presented in June 2023 by Prof. Gonzales at the 46th Annual Research Society on Alcohol (RSA) Scientific Meeting in Bellevue, Washington.
Dr. Hutter’s research focuses on emerging molecular sensing technologies, nanomaterials, microfabrication, and nanophotonics with applications in environmental and industrial sensing, homeland security, and medical diagnostics. She began her independent research working as a Research Fellow in Physical Chemistry at the University of Cambridge after earning her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. Before beginning her independent research at Cambridge, Dr. Hutter earned her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Ben-Gurion University and her M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Tel-Aviv University.
